Trailer Hitch and Bike Rack Recommendations for a 2018 Nissan Murano

Question:

Is there a recommended hitch for a Nissan Murano. One that will not interfere with the lift gate. Can I install it without a car lift? Is there some type of undercoating I should apply to it to prevent it from rusting? I will just be using for a bike rake, I assume I do not have to wire anything up. Thanks for your help. Also, any recommended bike rakes....

Out of the Curt # C13205 and Draw-Tite # 75952 trailer hitches for your 2018 Nissan Murano I recommend going with the Draw-Tite. Reason being that the Curt requires a stabilizing strap like part # 18050 for all non-trailer loads, like a bike rack, to remain under warranty whereas the Draw-Tite does not.

The installation is actually very easy and you shouldn't need a lift for it. If you check out the linked installation video, we didn't even have to lower the exhaust on a 2017 model. The lift gate should still function correctly but you will have to kick to the side of the receiver instead of just waving your foot underneath so that the sensors pick up your foot motion. There isn't an undercoating or wiring that would need to be completed but if you do end up scratching the hitch itself you can cover it up with some spray paint to help it resist corrosion.

We have a great selection of bike racks for you to choose from. Since most people with hatchback vehicles really want access to that back area without having to take the bike rack or bikes off I highly recommend going with a platform-style rack.

If you are looking more for an entry-level bike rack then the Thule Doubletrack # TH92BJ is a great option. It comes with tilting and folding features, bike and rack locks, and secures your bikes by the frame.

If you would like something that is a little more top-of-the-line then I highly recommend the Kuat NV 2.0. This comes in a base model # BA22B which has the same tilting/folding, and locking features as the Doubletrack, but it secures bikes by the wheel instead of the frame which makes it compatible with almost any bike that doesn't have a fender. We also have the upgraded version as part # NV22G or # NV22B which comes with a built-in bike stand as well.

Attached are some review videos for you to check out.
