If your 2007 Dodge Ram was not equipped with a factory 7-way connector, the brake output and 12-volt accessory circuits are not ran to the rear of the truck. You will need to install a 7-Way connector to be able to use a brake controller on your vehicle.
If you have a 4-Flat connector on your vehicle right now you can use the Hopkins Adapter, part # 37185, to install a 7-Way. This adapter will plug into the 4-Flat on your vehicle and give you a 7-Way and 4-Flat connector at the rear of your vehicle. After plugging in your 4-Flat to the back of the adapter there will be four extra wires that will need to be hardwired to your vehicle.
The four remaining wires will need to be hardwired to the corresponding circuits on the vehicle. The white (ground) wire will need to be attached to the vehicle frame, the black (12 volt power) wire is connected to the vehicles battery with 10 gauge wire like the # 10-1-1, through a 40-amp circuit breaker # 9510, the blue (trailer brake) wire will be connected to the blue trailer brake feed wire on the brake controller, and the purple ( auxiliary) wire is for reverse lights if you need that circuit. If any of these connections are not needed just wire tie them up out of the way for future use.
I am including a link to a video of the Hopkins adapter being installed on a 2006 Dodge Ram.
If your Dodge Ram has the brake controller port under the dash, I would recommend using a circuit tester, part # PTW2993, and test the wires for function.
The brown (red) wire on the factory plug should be 12-volt power and connected to black wire on brake controller.
The green wire on the factory plug should be the brake output and connected to blue wire on the brake controller.
The black wire on the factory plug should be ground wire and connected to the white wire on the brake controller.
The white wire with brown (red) stripe should be stoplight switch and connected to the red wire on the brake controller.
Again, to be sure of the function of each wire you will want to test the wires with a circuit tester.
I am including a link to a FAQ page on brake controller installation on Dodge Ram trucks.
