Recommended Timbren Axle-Less Suspension System and Components on Custom Dump Trailer
Question:
We are considering fabricating a farm tractor width dump trailer. High clearance is good with these, but what are your concerns regarding these axels in our application?

Helpful Expert Reply:
The Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System - 4" Lift Spindle w/ Brake Flange - 5,200 lbs # TASR5200S03 will work well for your dump trailer. Since you are fabricating it, you will get more ground clearance if you put a cross brace directly where you install the assemblies so you don't need to use the 2 inch square bar in the integrated holes that is required when you don't have that cross brace in that location. That will give you just over 2-1/4 inches more ground clearance at your axle location. I have no concerns other than staying within your load capacity when using these assemblies which can be used in tandem axle applications but not triple axle.
Since your use is offroad you can use the Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 5,200-lb and 6000-lb E-Z Lube Axles - 6 on 5-1/2 # 8-213-5UC1-EZ, but if you want to use the electric brake option, then you will use the Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly - 5,200-lb E-Z Lube Axles - 12" - 6 on 5-1/2 # 8-201-5UC3-EZ along with brake assemblies # AKEBRK-7-SA. If you add the brakes then you will run # 10-1-1 wire sold by the foot to your trailer connector.
Either hub will work with up to 16-1/2 inch wheels, but I recommend 16 inch wheels because there aren't nearly as many tires or wheels for 16-1/2 inch. My recommendation is the Karrier ST235/80R16 Radial Trailer Tire # w/ 16" White Spoke Wheel - 6 on 5-1/2 - Load Range E # AM32764.
