The Pro Series Weight Distribution System # 49570 referenced in your question does not allow backing up if you attach the friction sway control # 83660. Doing this can indeed cause damage to certain components of the system specifically that friction bar. Even with other weight distribution systems that do allow backing up, it is always best to try and reverse in as straight a line as possible.
With that in mind, reversing and making tight turns shouldn't bend the actual hitch pin inside your tow vehicle hitch receiver. Other components such as the hitch itself or the weight distribution shank would likely be damaged long before the hitch pin. Just let me know if you are referring to a different component that is bent on your weight distribution system.
Check to make sure you aren't overloading the hitch or your vehicle with the weight of your trailer. Your vehicle's specific capacities should be listed in your copy of the owner's manual.
