Recommended Trailer Tires for Boat Trailer with 14 Inch Wheels

Question:

I have 185R 14 tires on my boat trailer and I would like to put load range D tires on it or at least something that can carry 8000 pounds on two axles. Is this possable to do with the same size tires? If not what would be the replacement tire and difference in size?

We don't have any tires that are 185R14 size. For a similar size I recommend the Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range D # AM10235. These tires will fit 14" x 5", 14" x 5-1/2", 14" x 6", and 14" x 6-1/2" wheels so you won't need to replace your wheels. These tires are rated for 2,200 lbs at 75 psi and speeds up to 81 mph.

You will want to make sure your 14 inch wheels are rated for the 2,000 lb capacity as many of them are only rated for up to 1,870 lbs. We have Dexstar wheels that are rated for that capacity. I recommend the Dexstar Steel Mini Mod Trailer Wheel - 14" x 5-1/2" Rim - 5 on 4-1/2 - White Powder Coat # AM20365 rated for 2,040 lbs. Finally you will need valve stems like # AM20904.

If you want a wheel and tire already combined and balanced, I recommend the Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire w/ 14" White Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - Load Range D # AM32161 rated for 2,200 lbs at 75 psi and 81 mph max speed.
