Recommended 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch for 2006 Ram 2500 Mega Cab with B&W Turnoverball Installed
Question:
I just bought a 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 5.9 diesel mega cab for towing a 5th wheel camper. It has a short bed also. It came with the BandW under the bed connection already. But I have now read where the mega cabs are not good for towing 5th wheels. Will the companion work for me or do I need to change the whole system out? Would like your expert opinion please? And thank you

Helpful Expert Reply:
If your 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 already has the B&W Underbed Kit # BWGNRK1308-5W installed, then the B&W Companion # BWRVK3400-5W is definitely the best option for towing a fifth-wheel trailer. The Companions are considered by many to be the best available hitches on the market because of their 1 inch thick dual jaws that provide a great connection to the trailer and a fully articulating head that will ease hookup and limit chucking. The slider will also provide you with 12 inches of front to back travel for the needed cab clearance during sharp turns. What the Mega Cab takes up in bed length, the sliding mechanism will make up for during travel.
I have attached a short video demonstration on this hitch that you can also check out.
As long as you remain under your truck's towing capacity, you should have no issue towing a fifth-wheel trailer with this setup and your Mega Cab model Ram. The truck's specific towing capacity should be listed in your copy of the owner's manual or you can simply visit your local Ram dealer with your VIN.
