Even though we haven't test fit it to a 2016 Subaru Outback Wagon I am sure the actual bracket of the Curt Roof Mounted Cargo Basket # C18115 will fit over your OEM crossbars. It is compatible with crossbars up to 3" wide x 1-5/8" tall.

The part that I am not sure about is that this basket is compatible only with crossbars that have a spread (distance between the center of the front to the center of the back crossbar) of 15", 22", or 29". If your Outback Wagon fits this criteria then you should be good to go!

If your crossbars don't have a compatible spread then I recommend going with the Thule Roof Cargo Basket # TH859XT-8591XT which is a little bit bigger and is compatible with most crossbar sizes and the crossbars can be spread anywhere between 20 inches and 37 inches which gives you more fit opportunity.
