Parts Needed to Change a Triple Axle Kaufman Trailer from Electric to Electric Over Hydraulic Brakes
Question:
To change your electric brakes on your Kaufman trailer to an electric over hydraulic (EOH) system you will need to hydraulic brakes, brake lines, an EOH actuator, a breakaway kit (which you should already have), and a brake controller (which you should already have). I highly recommend going with the HydraStar EOH Actuator # HBA-12 which is one of the best options out there and has received great reviews from other customers. We hardly ever see any troubleshooting questions about these actuators. They are made in the USA and they come with a 2-year limited warranty. I have attached a photo showing how you would connect the wiring for this actuator. For brakes I recommend going with the Hydraulic Brake Kit # AKFBBRK-7 (you need 3 of these kits) which are free backing. The Kodiak Brake Line Kit # 20TR-BLKIT comes with flexible brake line which will last longer and is less liable to break. The longer hose is 20' so if you need longer just let me know and I can make a different recommendation. If you don't already have a 7-Way on your trailer or a breakaway kit I recommend the Epicord # 277-000141 which makes connecting your wiring easier as we as the Hopkins Engager # 20099 which is one of our top selling kits. You should already have a brake controller for the electric brakes but if you need to replace it or you are currently using an OEM controller I highly recommend the Prodigy P3 # 90195. This is a proportional brake controller that will apply the brakes on your trailer at the same time and with the same intensity as the brakes in your vehicle. The best feature about this brake controller is the LCD screen that makes operation and diagnosing any problems much easier than an older controller that only uses codes. Attached is a helpful article and some review videos for you to check out as well. Pricing can be found on the linked items and their product pages.
