Brake Controller Installation Instructions for a 2003 Ford F150 4x4 Crew Cab with Tow Package

Question:

I have a 03 Ford F150 4x4 crewcab with a factory installed class 111 tow package. It has a flat trailer plug and also a large round trailer plug installed from the factory. I dont know what I need to hook up a brake controller. Would I need anything other than the controller?

To install a brake controller on your 2003 Ford F150 4x4 crew cab, you will need a Brake Control Wiring Adapter, # 3035-S, or # 3035-P, depending on which brake controller you choose. If the brake controller has a port at the back for wiring the # 3035-P harness will be needed, and if there are just wires coming from the back of the controller, you will need to splice the # 20260 adapter to the wires on the brake controller.

The article detailing brake controller installation on the 1997 to 2004 Ford Trucks, that you referenced, is correct for your truck. This is a simple installation on trucks with the factory tow package wiring installed, you will just need to mount the controller and then plug it in under the dash.

If you need a brake controller, the Tekonsha P3 Brake Controller, # 90195, along with the # 3035-P, wiring adapter, see link, would be a great choice for your vehicle. This controller is easy to install and use, and is compatible with electric over hydraulic braking systems that many trailers are now using.
