Are the Blunt Cut Brake Controller Wires Under the Dash of a 07-13 GM Truck Circuit Protected
Question:
I have a 2010 GMC Sierra 1500 SLT. Does the red wire under the dash go directly to the under hood fuse box or is it tied into other electronics.

It sounds like you are trying to install a brake controller on your 2010 GMC Sierra 1500. If this is the case then the truck would have came from the factory with blunt cut wires under the dash that already have the functions for a brake controller. You will need to splice the wires from the brake controller into the blunt cut wires under the dash with part # DW05744-5. I have attached a photo that shows what the functions are for the wires on the brake controller and vehicle. All of the wires in the group of blunt cut wires under your dash for the brake controller will be tied into the vehicle's fuse box at some point which means they are circuit protected.
If you need a brake controller then I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90195 as this is one of our most popular options. This controller has integrated safeguards to protect both the vehicle/trailer and it runs continuous diagnostics checks for safety. I have attached a review video for you in addition to a help article on how to install a brake controller on your vehicle.
