Recommended Trailer Wiring Harness for a 2017 Toyota Tacoma

Question:

I own a 2017 Toyota Tacoma 4 cly 5 speed manual SR that came with no towing package. I need the light hookup receiver . I looked underneath and there is and open receptical that I assume the light hookup would go. I was hopeing that I could purchase that from you and just plug it in and run the trailer hookup part to the capped receptical area that is to the left of the licence plate which is only about 6 inches away. Would the curt T-connector wiring harness for factory two package 7 way and 4 pole flat connector work ?

I do have a plug-in trailer wiring harness that will fit your 2017 Toyota Tacoma but the plug you are referring to is not used for the trailer lights. For your Tacoma, I recommend the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness part # C56349 which actually plugs in behind the taillights as you can see in the attached instructions. This kit will provide you with a 4-way trailer connector.

If you need a 7-way trailer connector then in addition to the Curt harness you are also going to need to use the Universal Installation Kit part # ETBC7. This kit comes with the rest of the components you need to install a 7-way and brake controller. For a brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha Primus IQ Trailer Brake Controller part # TK90160 with the Tekonsha Custom Wiring Adapter part # 3031-P. Vehicles without the factory tow package may require fuses and relays needed to activate the tow package.
