Options to Allow Boat Trailer with Hydraulic Surge Brakes to Back Up

Question:

I have a 2011 Honda Pilot with tow package. Not sure if its OEM. I need the surge brakes on my boat trailer to release on backing up. I do have pictures of all the parts. Do you have an email address I can send them to, to show what I currently have? Thanks

Surge trailer brakes can be prevented from engaging when you back up by one of two methods.

First, the trailer could have a surge coupler with either an electric or a manual lockout function, such as # T43397007K with # T4748800(electric) or # T63FR (manual). The lockout blocks the hydraulic fluid pressure from reaching the brakes.

The other way to allow your trailer to be backed up is to replace the standard hydraulic brakes with free-backing brakes. These have a built-in feature that allows reversing the trailer even when a standard surge coupler is installed.

I linked our main pages for both couplers with a lockout and free-backing brakes, which we have in capacities for 3000-lb to 7000-lb axles.
