There are a couple of different ways you can install a brake controller in your 2005 Nissan Pathfinder. If the Pathfinder came with a factory installed 7-Way trailer connector, you can use wiring harness # 3050-P. One end plugs into a port on the vehicle and the other end also has a plug but you can cut it off and wire it to the wires on the brake controller HA81745 color for color. But I recommend Hayes harness # HA81786-HBC to plug the controller directly into the vehicle.
The port on the vehicle will be located underneath and left of the steering column, taped to another harness near the emergency brake pedal. I have included a link to the installation instructions for you.
If the Pathfinder did not come with trailer wiring, you will first need to install Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, # 118263. I have included a link to the installation details and a video for the wiring harness.
With the 4-Way installed, you can then install the 4- and 7-Way Installation Kit, # ETBC7 which will add a 7-Way in the back and provide the wiring for a brake controller. You will also need a circuit tester, # PTW2993, for brake controller installation.
I have included a link to an FAQ article and a link to a video that explains how to install the ETBC7 and hardwire the brake controller.
