What Size Slide-Out Awning Should be Used for a 94 Inch Wide Slide-Out

Question:

Have a 2015 29HFS Hyper Lite by Forest River. The outside with flange measures 94 inches. The actual box is 88 inches that is coverage if the awning is 96 inches for the 8ft topper which be would 5 inches over on both sides of the actual roof. Why on a previous question would you recommend the 8.5 canopy? Please let me know. Is the 8 foot really 8 ft. wide. Thanks. Interested in buying your product.

Expert Reply:

Slide-out awnings need to be longer than the box to account for the mounting hardware and to help keep the elements, specifically rain, from getting in too easily. The awnings actually need about 6 inches on each side of the box flange for the overall length of the assembly.

Also the manufacturer states that the fabric itself needs to be 2-1/2 inches wider on each side than the overall width of the box. If your outside flange measurement is 94 inches then that additional 5 inches brings it to 99 and a 96 inch awning would not be long enough. That is why you would need the 8-1/2 foot awning # LCV000163289 which is 102 inches long.
