From what I was able to find, the 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee, front wheel drive model can be flat towed if a transmission lube pump is installed. You should consult the vehicle owners manual to determine if there are any specific requirements to tow your vehicle.

If you find that you can flat tow the vehicle, you can use the Roadmaster XL Base Plates, # 1419-7, that you have selected provided the vehicle does not have a brush guard.

You would then need a compatible tow bar. The most popular tow bar for XL base plates is the Falcon 2, # RM-520. I have included a link to the installation details and a video review of the tow bar for you.

You will also need a set of safety cables. I recommend the coiled safety cables, # RM-643. The coiled design helps keep the cables from touching the ground.

For a lighting solution, there are several options depending on your specific needs and how often you will be towing the vehicle. I have included a link to an FAQ article that covers the various options for you to review.

Most states now require a supplemental braking system install on the vehicle being towed. I recommend the Roadmaster Even Brake, # RM-9400, because it is the easiest to set up and use. This is a proportional system that applies the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the towing vehicle is braking. This reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.

I have also included a link to our series of FAQ articles on flat towing for you.
