Question:

Have a few questions. I have a pair of dexter 4400lb cap axles im looking to put under a trailer. I need all new springs and stuff to hang them..Ive found a couple pairs of springs that I think will worksp The Unive..but Im scratching my head on the correct size spring hangers and equalizers. If it makes a difference spring will be on top of axle

The Universal 6-Leaf Double-Eye Spring # e27SR that you referenced is a great option for the 4,400 pound axles you will be putting on your trailer. These measure 26 inches long from the center of the spring eye to the center of the other spring eye. You will just need a quantity of 4 for your tandem axle setup.

Then for a kit that includes the needed equalizers, hangers, shackle straps, bolts, and locknuts, you can use the etrailer.com Tandem-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit # APT5. This system is compatible with the above mentioned leaf spring and works well on 2,000 pound to 7,000 pound tandem-axle trailers. Just note that you will need to have a qualified professional weld the hangers to the trailer frame.

Since you are wanting to place the springs on top of the axle, you will likely need an Over-Under Kit if the spring seats are already welded to your axles. Most likely your 4,400 pound axle features a 2-3/8 diameter. If this is the case, you can use the Over-Under Conversion Kit # K71-384-00. If you happen to have a 3 inch diameter axle, you will need # K71-385-00 instead.

Then it is just a matter of correctly positioning the axles on your trailer. I have attached a great article that explains this process thoroughly that you may find helpful.
