Troubleshooting Output Shorted Message on Prodigy P3 Brake Controller
Question:
Hello, I have a Tekionsha P3 and I am getting the message OUTPUT SHORTED. Does this mean the blue wire that goes from the controller to the hitch is grounding somewhere, or can it be on the trailer side? It shows this message even when the trailer is not connected. Any guidance will be appreciated. I have not chased the wire down yet as it is in a 36 foot Motorhome.

The blue wire of the P3 Prodigy Brake Controller part # 90195 that you referenced is shorting out and since the error message appears with the trailer disconnected too that indicates it's on the vehicle side of the wiring. The places to check first are at the rear trailer connector looking for any exposed wire on the back or bent pins on the inside and then up in the interior of the vehicle where the controller wires in. Look for shorts near where the controller splices to the vehicle.
If you can't find the problem there you'd want to start at the wiring at the rear of the vehicle and work yourself forward fixing any shorts as you find them.
