How to Find Correct Replacement Tires for 4.80 - 8 4 Ply Trailer Tires
Question:
Hi, I am trying to fix up a trailer and I have two trailer tires that need to be replaced. Can you please help me sort out how to find the right replacement? I am not sure what kind of details you need, but the only thing that is written on the tire is 4.80 - 8 and 4 - Ply Rating NYLON 2 PLIES and TUBELESS. Can I just replace this tire with any 4.80 - 8 tire? Do I need to measure the rim and tire to make sure I get a perfect fit? Thank you for any help.

Your 4.80-8 size tire is the same as a 4.80/4.00-8 size tire. If the tires and rims are all original then we know they're compatibe with one another so there's no need to measure anything. It also says you have a 4-ply tire which is Load Range B. The tire probably mentions a maximum weight capacity as well which is better to use than the ply rating. Look for this number and make sure the tires you get are rated or at least as much capacity as what you have.
Looking at your picture I recommend replacing the rims as well. You have a 4 on 4 bolt pattern so I recommend going with # AM30000 tire and wheel combination. It's a 4-ply with a maximum capacity of 590 pounds per tire when inflated to 60 psi. If you need a higher rated tire use part # AM30040 which is rated up to 745 pounds at 90 psi.
If you don't need the rims then you can get the tires on their own; part # AM10002 is the lower rated tire and part # AM10004 is the higher. I've also linked videos on each product for you, as well as some articles on tires you may find helpful.
