Parts Needed to Install Trailer Wiring and Brake Controller in 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan
Question:
Hello, 2017, Dodge Grand Caravan SXT. If I buy the basic wiring harness, can I later add a brake controller adapter or is that a whole different harness? The reason for my question: right now and the foreseeable future, Im only hauling a small utility trailer. One day I might be interested in getting a small RV trailer like a Casita, Scamp, or something like that. Which Im assuming have brakes on them. Thank you,

Yes, you can install the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C56331 which is a fit for your 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan now and then later add a brake controller easily. Whether you'd install the brake controller and 7-way now or later would not make a difference as first you'll always need to install a 4-way and then use the # ETBC7 to convert to a 7-way and install the brake controller.
The # ETBC7 comes with everything you'd need to install a 7-way and wire in a brake controller.
For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P3 Brake Controller part # 90195. This is our best-selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup. This is a proportional brake controller that senses the amount of braking the tow vehicle is applying and applies a proportionate amount to the trailer brakes. This will be the last brake controller you buy. It can easily be transferred to future vehicles as well.
