Carrying Bikes and Towing a Trailer at the Same Time

Question:

I have a 30 foot travel trailer with a weight distribution hitch I connect to my Yukons receiver. I am looking at something like the Curt Dual 2inch Receiver Tube Adapter, 8inch Extension Item # D-192 to see if I can attach my trailer and also connect my bike rack to the receiver hitch. I realize the Curt model I reference isnt rated for enough weight for my travel trailer, but wanted to know if you had anything else that would work for this need. Thanks!

There is a way for you to carry a bike rack with you, but there is not a part similar to the # D-192 that would work for you. Instead, I recommend installing a hitch on your trailer such as the Curt # 13703, which will work with trailers that have box frames, C-channel frames, or I-beam frames that are between 22" and 72" wide.

You will also need a bike rack that is rated for use on a trailer because of the extensive movement that occurs in the rear of a trailer when it is being towed. For a platform rack the Swagman Dispatch # S44FR would be a great option, as it has a capacity of 45 lbs per bike, uses ratcheting hooks to secure your bikes by the top tubes and sliding wheel trays to secure the rear wheels to make it a sturdy option for bikes of different sizes. It also comes with a hitch lock to secure the rack to your hitch and cable lock to secure your bikes to the rack.

I've added a link to our page that has our selection of trailer-approved bike racks for you to check out, and feel free to get back to me with any questions about this.
