Recommended Trailer Hitch for 2001 Chrysler Town and Country to Use with Wheelchair Carrier

Question:

Would your, Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2 Item # 75119, be suitable for using with a wheelchair/scooter carrier on a 2001 Chrysler town and country? The scooter weight is just over 200 lbs and the carriers I am looking at are listed in the 50-75 lb range, all requiring a type 3 or 4 hitch.

The Draw-Tite Class III Max Frame Round Tube Receiver Hitch # 75119 referenced in your question is confirmed to fit your 2001 Chrysler Town and Country. This is a Class III hitch that features a tongue weight capacity of 350 pounds, which sounds like it will be more than enough for the combined weight of your wheelchair/scooter and carrier. With this in mind, you will also need to verify the tongue weight capacity of the vehicle itself, as you will always be limited by your weakest component. This means that if the vehicle is rated for less than 350 pounds of tongue weight, you will need to follow the vehicle's limit, even though the hitch is rated for more.

Based on my research, it looks like your Town and Country may have a tongue weight capacity closer to around 200 pounds. I do still recommend verifying this information in your copy of the owner's manual, as its very possible that you have a different model.

I have attached the installation instructions for this trailer hitch that you can look through.

If you are still looking for a carrier, I recommend checking out the Flint Hill Goods Cargo Carrier # FHG69ZR. This aluminum carrier includes an attached, 60 inch long ramp and weighs just about 77 pounds. Its interior (usable) dimensions are 47" long x 27-1/2" wide x 7" tall.

I have attached a short video demonstration on this carrier that you can take a look at as well.
