Recommended Trailer Adapter for 7-Way on 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe
Question:
2014 Santa Fe with 4 pole connector and a trailer with 7 pole + brakes. The trailer is a 7 pole connector unit has trailer brakes and my Santa Fe has a flat 4. Can i use a simple 4 to 7 adapter? I understand that the trailer brakes would not be functional but it is a relatively light tent trailer. If the trailer has brakes is there a requirement to have them hooked up/functional? Do I absolutely have to install a brake controller and use the brakes?

For your 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe, you will need to check the local and state laws to determine if you can legally tow a trailer with brakes without having the working components. These laws vary from state to state and sometimes are based on trailer weight.
If you are able to use the 7-way without connecting all the parts, then you can simply use the 4 to 7-way adapter # 30717 and brackets # PK12711U and # 18140.
If you do need a brake controller, then I recommend the Prodigy P3 # 90195 which has the easy to read LCD screen as well as the preset brake boost settings. Then you will need the wiring kit # ETBC7 to complete your wiring. This includes all the parts you need to add the other functions to your existing 4-way.
