Recommended Roof Rack with Bike and Kayak Carriers on a 2017 Mazda 3 with Fixed Mountig Points

Question:

Im looking for your advice on a roof rack for my 2017 Mazda 3 4-door w/ fixed mounting points. I do not want a door frame mount and would prefer a black color. I want to be able to carry two bikes or two kayaks. Not at the same time. I love the look of the simplistic look of the OEM crossbars but Im not sure if I can get two kayaks on with that system. I wish there was a product that mimicked the look of the OEM bars, without the over hanging bars over the feet, but in black. What would you recommend? Thanks

We do have black roof racks that install into the fixed mounting points on your 2017 Mazda 3 that don't use the clamps around the door frames. Although, you're correct that all of them stick out passed the feet so they aren't the OEM look you're trying to get.

The rack I recommend is a Yakima system with their 50 inch JetStream bars which uses:

50 inch JetStream Crossbars # Y00425
SkyLine Towers # Y53TR
Landing Pad 11 # Y00233

I've linked a video of the SkyLine towers being installed into the fixed mounting points on a CX-5 so you can see the install.

For a roof mounted bike carrier I recommend the Yakima HighRoad, part # Y02114. It fits a wide vareity of bikes and will fit on the Yakima bars.

Then for the kayaks the Yakima JayLow, part # Y04073, is a great option. It can hold up to 2 kayaks and can be folded down for clearance when not in use. You need an extra set of tie-downs, part # Y04031, for the second boat and I also recommend adding QuickLashes, part # MPG308, to make the set up easier.

You can also add locks to secure everything to your Mazda's roof using part # Y07208.
