Best 2-1/2 Inch Weight Distribution System for a 7,000 Lb Trailer

Question:

I have upgrade trucks from Ram 1500 to Ram 2500. Using a Husky 32218 Equalizer hitch. Will need to upgrade shank from 2inch to 2 1/2inch . I see this available and looks excellent. Will this still be effective for my lighter weight trailer. TW 800-1200. Gross trailer at 7,000 lb. Regular shank upgrade would be $ so for $ more would have an even better unit. Also will this attach to my Husky 32218. 2inch width on Husky hookup I couldnt find dimensions on bar. ?? 2inch with 1 1/4inch bolt spacing?? . Thanks.

I do have options for you but Husky does not make a weight distribution shank that will work with a 2-1/2" receiver tube opening. I also cannot confirm that any of the other brands that make a weight distribution shank for a 2-1/2" receiver tube opening will work with a Husky system.

Therefore, you can either use a reducer sleeve like part # C45405 or sell the Husky Center Line Weight Distribution part # HT32218 that you have to recoup some of the money and then purchase a new system that is appropriately rated for the weight of your trailer.

In order to make sure you are choosing the best weight distribution system, you will need to calculate the total tongue weight (TTW) which is composed of both the loaded ready to tow tongue weight of the trailer by any cargo stored behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. The tongue weight of a trailer is usually 10-15% of the trailer's gross trailer weight (GTW). As long as the TTW of your towing setup does not exceed 1,200 lbs, I recommend the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System part # EQ37121ET with the Equal-i-zer Weight Dist Shank part # EQ90-02-4900.

Equal-i-zer weight distribution systems are considered to be one of the best on the market. In addition to load distribution, it will also provide you with sway control. The system comes with everything you need to install for the exception of minor tools needed to assemble the components.

I have attached a review/install video for you as well.
