Solution for Frozen Gooseneck Hitch Release Mechanism
Question:
2011 Chevy 2500HD The gooseneck hitch currently does not have a ball in it. I am trying to install a new ball into the hitch but I have found that the hitch seems to be stuck. When pulling the lever nothing happens besides it starts to flex and I am afford that it will snap off. I have tried going underneath the truck and hitting the pin with a pry bar and hammer but it will not budge. Any advise? Also when I do manage to get it free, will it hurt anything if I was to put some Anti-Seize on the keeper pin and inside the holes to avoid this from happening again?

I spoke to my contacts at our gooseneck manufacturers and they have all said that when their hitch balls or release mechanisms get frozen in the hitches like the part # BWGNRK1313 the best solution is to let it soak for a long time with penetrating oil like WD40 or PB blaster.
He said the more penetrating oil the better, and letting it soak up to a week is your best option. In extreme cases he said that some people have removed the center section of the hitch and taken it to a machine shop to have them press it out.
