How to Reduce Wobble when Using Curt Cargo Carrier C18145 in a 2 Inch Trailer Hitch
Question:
I purchased the hitch with 2inch receiver and c18145 cargo carrier recommended by etrailer for my 2017 Jeep Patriot. Assembly went well, but when I went to install it to the receiver I added the plastic 2inch adaptor and the rattle bolt and pin set and found an unacceptable amount of wobble. The cargo basket tipped by a couple inches side to side. Am I doing something terribly wrong or is it a potential defect?

Hitch accessories tend to wobble, especially those that use a 1-1/4 inch to 2 inch adapter. The threaded hitch pin can only do so much to combat the movement. The issue is that the shank of the accessory has to be slightly smaller than the opening otherwise it would be difficult to insert and remove the accessory. That combined with the single attachment point and width of a cargo carrier means that even the smallest gap between shank and receiver seems huge at either end of the carrier.
What you can do is use a secondary anti-rattle device, # GY88XR, to take out more of that play. This one is awesome because it stays on the shank of the accessory so it will be in the right place every time and also helps line up the pin holes.
