Question:
I am needing a trailer brake controller for my Chevy 2007 pu to pull a 2 axle 4 brake 4 horse trailer. Questions are 1. what is meant by mounting range? 2. what type of controller would I want Proportional or Time delayed what is meant by this?? 3. what type of leveling would I want? I am on a tight budget. I have been looking at the Tekonsha Voyager and Primus. Would they work?

The Tekonsha Voyager Trailer Brake Controller # 39510 and Tekonsha Primus IQ Trailer Brake Controller # TK90160 are excellent brake controllers to work with your 2007 Chevy Silverado. . They are both proportional brake controllers but the mounting and leveling is a little different but similar
Mounting range or leveling means that since brake controllers are designed to work properly being mounted at certain angles, the given mounting range on the # 39510 (90 degrees) indicates to what extent you can adjust the controller without causing some type of error or malfunction to the controller. This controller will allow you to level or mount the device between -20 degrees and 70 degrees in the vertical plane (see attachment). The leveling on this device is manual, it will allow you to set your desired angle.
The # TK90160 also has a mounting range of 90 degrees however, you can mount this controller between 0 degrees (level) and 90 degrees in the vertical plane. This product has a quick-disconnect feature which lets you easily remove and store the controler when not in use.
The # TK90160 has the ability to be automatic-leveling. There are internal sensors that detect deceleration even if the controller is not mounted flat. The leveling on # 39510 device is manual, it will allow you to set your desired angle.
Some brake controllers work well regardless of how you mount it such as the # 90195. It has a 360-degree vertical range.
Both brake controllers require Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers # 3015-P. It will allow you to Install your electric brake controller quickly and easily with this custom wiring adapter. Simply plug one end of the adapter into your brake controller and then plug the other end into the junction box beneath your vehicle's dashboard.
In regards to you pulling a 2 axle 4 brake horse trailer, both products can handle the task. It is also designed for use with electric brakes only.
I have a detailed article that explains in detail the difference between a time delayed and the recommended proportional brake controller.
If you don't have a 7-way connection installed you will also need item # PK11898 to complete your wiring.
If your truck has a round plug with a cap instead of a bundle of wires above the spare tire, use part # 30955 instead of the # PK11898.
