Tip for Installing Frame Cradles on Bike Rack that Don't Want to Slide On

Question:

My bike rack is a Bell with 1inch diameter. These cradles are just a little too tight to shove down the rack. Is there another way to make them fit without replacing?

The replacement frame cradle part # 853-7887 that you referenced while intended for a Thule bike rack it should fit on a cradle arm that measures 1 inch in diameter pretty easily. That said in some situations like yours it can be somewhat difficult to get them to slide on all the way.

One of the tricks of the trade is to spray some hairspray on the bike rack arm and even in the cradle's hole. The hairspray will at first be slippery but will become tacky once it starts to dry. When it is slippery you can move the cradle into position easier and when it gets tacky it will help hold the cradle in place.
