Troubleshooting Prodigy P3 Brake Controller that Shows No Connection
Question:
I have a 2015 GMC Canyon sle 4wd, I bought the Tekonsha p3 trailer brake system and installed it according to the directions on this website but it still doesn’t work right, it turns on but doesn’t display brake info and it says no trailer is connected, I checked the fuses and ground wire to make sure they were installed and they were I tried switching the wires around to see if any other combinations would show that the trailer is connected but it still showed not connected to trailer. My truck has the factory 7 way installed , when I plug the trailer in the lights turn on but nothing else.

Sounds like you installed the brake controller correctly but there is a short on the brake output pin of the connector on your vehicle or trailer that is preventing the controller from being able to communicate with the trailer's brakes.
This is a very common solution for the problem you are experiencing. Typically just sanding the pins of the connectors down so that the contact can be made fixes the problem. I also attached an FAQ on troubleshooting brake controllers for you to check out as well.
