What Parts are Needed to Tow a Trailer with a 2005 Honda Pilot

Question:

I recently purchased a 2005 Coleman Pop up and need to install a hitch on my 2005 Honda Pilot. Can you provide all the materials I need so that I can make sure I have the correct set up?

We certainly do have everything you need to get your 2005 Honda Pilot ready to tow a trailer. To start with I recommend the Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver, part # 75599. It's a custom fit on your Pilot and I've attached an install video for you.

You also need a ball mount, hitch pin, and hitch ball. We have a kit that includes several options of them all, part # 989900. First you need to determine the drop or rise you need with your trailer. I've linked an article to help with this as well. In the video of the hitch being installed you can see that it was 17 inches from the ground to the top of the receiver tube when we measured it. Compare this to the bottom of your trailer's coupler's height.

Finally, the Pilot needs a trailer wiring harness to power the trailer's lights. Part # 118336 plugs right in to a connector in the rear cargo area. You need to temporarily remove some paneling. I've linked this install video as well.

In addition to the articles and videos I mentioned there are a few general ones on towing you might take a look at too.
