SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System Not Moving Brake Pedal on 2018 GMC Canyon

Question:

I can’t seem to get the SMI DUO #SM99251 to work properly on my 2018 GMC Canyon with 2.8 Diesel engine . I think everything has been wired in and hooked up correctly except for the vacuum line and check valve . The vacuum pump and the brake light will come on when I pull the safety plug out of the front but it will not pull the brake petal down. The vacuum line on the diesel motor is steel so I didn’t want to splice into it until it converts to a hard plastic line at the rear of the motor. At this point I installed the check valve black side pointed towards motor the tee , one line towards the brake booster and the other to the DUO vacuum pump. Please send me more information or email me if you have any questions to help me get the system in working order .thank you

When the actuator fails to move the vehicle brake pedal there are a couple of things to check. First check that there is adequate tension on the cable that pulls the pedal. Adjust as needed according to the instructions (linked for reference).

If that is not the issue then it could be a lack of pressure in the system. To check this you will remove the actuator air line in order to check for pressure. If there is no pressure or very little pressure then look for anywhere in the line where there may be a pinch, kink, or break in the line and fix/replace as needed.

If that doesn't work then try moving the connections to the vehicle vacuum system to other locations.
