Troubleshooting Stay-In-Play DUO on 2016 Jeep Cherokee with Start/Stop System

Question:

had this system installed by a local RV dealer. have had nothing but problems with the Jeeps start/stop system ever since. have gone between jeep dealer still under warranty other than the aftermarket brake system and the rv dealer. jeep dealer and their STAR help deptsay cannot attach anything to the jeeps electrical system. rv dealer says everything they did should not affect the start/stop system. jeep dealer says the error codes come back to the brake control modual I think that is what it is called , could be something spliced into the jeep wiring. jeep says the entire aftermarket brake system needs to be removed. did the 2016 jeep Cherokee in your video have the start/stop system? and if so did you experience any problems with the start / stop system? thanks

I reached out to the manufacturer and they said the Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System # SM99251 will work fine with your 2016 Jeep Cherokee with start/stop if it is installed correctly. The start/stop system won't be an issue and will function properly.

What your error code and issue is showing is that there is a vacuum leak caused by either a part issue or wrong positioning. This can be due to a check valve being installed backwards for instance. The black part of that valve should be facing the engine and the white part facing the T-connector. There is the odd time that a check valve is installed correctly, but it just has a defect and needs to be replaced.

I've attached the video for you to double check all the connections. If everything is good, you can clear an error code by starting and stopping your Jeep 6 times in a row and the light will clear.

The Jeep Cherokee we used in our installation video did not have the start/stop system, but it will be a great reference for you, so I've attached it. If you get stuck let me know and we can continue to troubleshoot.

I bought the Demco SM99251 2 years ago. The cable snapped in the cylinder. Poor poor design as the set screw damages the cable and makes it gray and brake. You would think it would last longer than that. Less than 8,000 miles and broke!!! AND they want $100.00 to rebuild the cylinder with an updated design. Total BS. Don’t expect a good review from me for this piece. I do want to say your company installation video and support are exceptional.

Thank you for your feedback on the Stay-IN-Play # SM99251 braking system. I reached out to my contact at Demco about this as well and they said that the only reason that cable would break is if the cylinder/cable wasn't installed properly as the cable is much stronger than any amount of pressure that would be applied to it. If you check out the linked instructions on the product page it walks through how the cable/cylinder should be installed.

@JonG I followed the installation procedure to a T. The set screw contacting the cable damages it. I was able to splice the cable plus add a stop at the back of the cable lug thus Allen set screw is applied but not with so much force to damage the cable. They said to wrap cable thru lug and back they again putting a strain on the cable at the 90 degrees.
