Parts Needed to Run a Charge Wire to Trailer Battery for Interior for Lighting

Question:

Two questions: 1. The exterior lights on the cargo trailer work fine signals, brakes, running, etc..., but the interior lights only work when either the car door is open or I turn on the interior lights in the car. The Cargo trailer and Car both have 4 pole flat connectors factory installed. 2. I want to add a battery to the Cargo Trailer to run the Interior lights without having to be connected to the car. How do I wire the 4 pole flat connector to a battery? Thanks!

Basically what you described isn't possible under normal circumstances with a trailer wired with just a 4-way. Are you sure you have only a 4-way wired to the trailer and not an additional connector? Only taillight functions would be carried on a 4-way and none of those circuits should be affected by the vehicle doors opening.

What you'd normally need to do to add a battery is use the 7-way junction box kit part # HS381-9000 on your trailer so that you can run the 12 volt power circuit of the 7-way to the battery.

Then on the vehicle side you'd need the part # 37185 to convert it to a 7-way. The black wire of this kit will need to run to the vehicle battery through a breaker like part # 9510 and 10 gauge wire like part # 10-1-1.
