Recommended Adapter for Connecting 4-Way on Vehicle to 7-Way on Pop Up Camper

Question:

Greetings! I am going to end up towing a pop up with a seven prong wiring hookup. Are there adapters to convert a conventional four prong to this? Thanks!

If the pop up camper you plan on towing is not equipped with brakes (and you only need to power its basic signal lights), then you can simply use the Hopkins Adapter 4-Pole to 7-Pole # 37185. This will plug right into the 4-Way on your Town and Country to provide a 7-Way connector on the other end that will hook right up to the trailer. The white wire coming out from the adapter is for ground and the remaining wires can simply be tied off, as they will not be needed. The great thing about this adapter is that it also features a 4-Way on the new connector, so you can leave this plugged in, even when going back to a trailer that is equipped with a 4-Way.

I have attached a short video demonstration on this product that you can also take a look at.

If the trailer in question is equipped with brake assemblies, then the 7-Way will need to be fully functional. If this is the case, then I instead recommend the Universal Wiring Kit # ETBC7. This kit includes everything needed to install a fully functional 7-Way from your existing 4-Way, along with the wiring needed to install a brake controller. I have attached a great article that details the installation steps for this kit that you can use for reference.

If this is what you need, then you will also need a trailer brake controller for your Chrysler Town and Country. For this, I highly recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885. This is an excellent, proportional controller that will activate the trailer brakes at the same time and with the same intensity that you apply to them in your vehicle. It features an easy to read digital display and continuous diagnostics that will alert you to any potential issues. This unit is well known for its reliability and ease of use.
