Where Do New Suspension Hangers Need to Mount When Replacing Axle and Springs

Question:

I am asking the best way to install a set of new spring hangers to my trailer. I am upgrading my axles and wheels from 2200 gvwr to 3000 gvwr axles with new springs and need to install new spring hangers. I need to cut off the old ones that are there. What is the best way to set them correct then I can weld them myself. My thought is to mark my frame to the trailer center of the hub on both sides. that sets my axle center line. Then set up my new axles and springs with the hangers attached then line it all up and mark my frame. where the hangers sit. Would that work. I am looking to learn how to do it. thanks

Typically trailer leaf springs will have a hanger distance recommended for them. What you'd want to do most likely is use that dimension with the current axle center dimension your trailer has so that you can install the new axles in the same location as your old axle.

Basically you want to locate the axle so that you end up with the tongue weight of the trailer being 10-15 percent of the total trailer weight.
