Recommended Battery Charge Line Kit for 2008 GMC Canyon Being Towed
Question:
I recently bought and am in the process of installing the 7 to 6 light kit by roadmaster, roadmaster all terrian tow bar, rm base plate, and rm invisibrake. Everything is going as planned. BUT, dont I need to connect the 12v supply from the RV to the 12v of the 2008 GMC Canyon to keep the truck battery charged and supply plenty of current to replace what is used each time the brake is engaged? So, what needs to installed? I plan to make the systems rather than buy a kit. Simply a diode from the 12v on the 6way to the 12v on the truck or do I need a true controller? I have a 12v continous battery solenoid rated at 85 amps that could be used. A 12v Circuit breaker like the premade kit Item # RM-156-25? What prevents back flow from the tow car to the rv in the kit?

Expert Reply:
To maintain the charge on your GMC Canyon's battery, I do recommend going with the Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit # RM-156-25. The charge line will connect to the 6-Way on your Canyon that you would have mounted when installing the Roadmaster 7-Wire to 6-Wire Wiring Kit # RM-15267 that you mentioned. It will allow up to 15 amps from the RV's battery to be used to maintain charge on the towed vehicle's battery.
This includes the 14-guage wire, split wire loom, hardware and circuit breaker. An additional diode is not needed.
If no charge line is present already on the RV, you can add # RM-156-75.
