Comparing the Curt # C13206 and the EcoHitch # 306-X7601 for a 2018 Subaru Outback Wagon

I have a 2018 Subaru Outback Premium. I am torn between the Curt 13206 and the Economy 306-X7601. I primarily will be pulling a flatbed type trailer and probably never more than 1500#, most of the time much less. Also, I keep my cars till the wheels fall off, so good construction is a must. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you,

I take it that you are debating over the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13206 and the EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver # 306-X72601 for your 2018 Subaru Outback Wagon because the Curt is rated for a higher weight capacity but the EcoHitch has a cleaner look.

The thing that you need to remember is that when using your vehicle to tow or carry anything you always have to check the weight of the equipment you are using (trailer hitch) AND the weight rating for your vehicle. Whichever one is lower is the limiting factor and you should not go over that number.

When I took a look at the owner's manual for your Outback Wagon I noticed on page 8-19 that it states the max Gross Trailer Weight (GTW) of your vehicle is 2,700 lbs and the max Tongue Weight (TW) is 200 lbs. Since both trailer hitches are rated for more than either of these weights I recommend going with the EcoHitch option. It has a cleaner look and since your Outback Wagon is rated lower you will never have to worry about exceeding the weight rating for this trailer hitch.

To use your Subaru for towing you also need a wiring harness like the T-One # 118467 and a ball mount, hitch ball, and pin and clip like what comes in the Curt Kit # C45036. You will want to check out the attached ball mount article to ensure that the 2" drop of the ball mount is correct for your towing application
