Capacity of the Factory Trailer Hitch on a 2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty

Question:

Hi, I wanted to know if you would recommend that I replace my current factory hitch on my 2017 F250? My current TW is 1450lbs measured using Sherline TW Scale and the hitch that came from the Ford factory is rated at 1500lbs TW. Im concerned about going over the 1500lb TW even just a little as I tend to put items in the back of my truck when pulling my trailer travel. If you do recommend that I upgrade my receiver hitch what model would you recommend? Thanks,

If you have the 6.2 V8 engine in your 2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty than the maximum tongue weight rating is 1,500 lbs and you would not benefit from replacing the factory trailer hitch but if you have the 6.7L V8 engine then the maximum tongue weight rating is 1,800 lbs and you would see benefits from replacing the factory trailer hitch.

If you have the 6.7L V8 engine then I recommend using the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C15802. This option is a Class V hitch with a 2-1/2" receiver tube opening. The capacities for this hitch are listed below:

Maximum Gross Trailer Weight (GTW): 20,000 lbs
Maximum Tongue Weight (TW): 2,700 lbs

If you have any 2" trailer hitch accessories that you will be using with this hitch then you will also want to use the Curt Hitch Receiver Reducer Sleeve part # C45405.
