Anti-rattle Device Recommendations for the Trailer Hitch Adapter # 80303

Question:

I am putting on an allen 5 bike rack with a 1/2 no wobble bolt.. i was thinking that my old 4 bike 1.25 allen no wobble bolt of 3/8 would work to secure the 80303, but according to your description it needs a 5/8 pin.. i would think the pin would be wobbly.. is there a 5/8 type no wobble bolt i could get to secure it?

On the Hitch Adapter, # 80303, the end that fits into the trailer hitch requires a 1/2 inch hitch pin and the receiver side needs a 5/8 hitch pin like you have said. Provided that the bike rack shank is hollow, you may be able to use Anti-Rattle Device and Lock, # S64030.

Another issue that you may not be aware of is that the use of an adapter reduces the tongue weight capacity of a trailer hitch by 50 percent. The weight of the bike rack and everything loaded on it counts against the tongue weight. You will need to make sure that the reduced tongue weight capacity is enough for the combined weight of the rack and bikes.
