Does a 2010 Toyota Highlander With Factory Tow Package Have a Converter?
Question:
I have a 2010 Highlander limited with factory towing capabilities ie larger radiator, etc. The dealer tells me that I just have to attach the wiring in the back of the car for a trailer. My problem is when I looked under the dash I found the white plug, but no converter in it. Do I just go ahead and connect the trailer wiring in the back? What sort of damage will happen if there is no converter in the car? How do I know if it really has a converter or not?

Expert Reply:
Since your 2010 Toyota Highlander has the factory towing package there will be a converter and you will only need to plug in the 4-flat wiring harness # 56042. To know if it has a converter - which will come with the factory tow package - you need to call your Toyota dealer and give them your VIN. They will be able to tell you everything that came with the vehicle, including whether or not you have the tow package.
