Question:

I have a 2018 Corolla. I'd like to put a hitch on it to pull my little jon boat 200lbs with a trailer that weighs maybe 300 lbs, to a lake 5 miles away from my house in North Carolina some hills! good roads. What do you recommend?

I have exactly what you will need to tow your small john boat to the lake with your 2018 Toyota Corolla. For starters you will need a trailer hitch and for that I recommend the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 24952. The Draw-Tite Sportframe is a Class I hitch with a 1-1/4" receiver tube opening. I have attached an installation video of this hitch installed on a similar 2017 Toyota Corolla for you which as you can see is very simple and straightforward.

Then if your trailer has lights as most due you will need a wiring harness and for that I recommend the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # HM11141824 which is a direct fit for your vehicle and will not require you to cut or splice any wires. It features a simple plug and play installation.

You will also need a ball mount/hitch ball and for your iM, the Draw-Tite Drawbar part # 3593 should do just fine for you. However, you will want to glance over the attached ball mount help article to be sure the above ball mount provides you with the correct amount of rise/drop. Odds are that your trailer has a 1-7/8" coupler therefore you will also need the Hitch Ball part # 19256 to complete your towing setup.
