In regards to your 2012 F-150 4x4, I recommend a weight distribution system. Weight distribution systems are recommended if the vehicle is pulling a trailer that weighs more than 50% of the tow vehicle. The systems improve braking and handling while increasing the towing capacity of some trailer hitches. I took in consideration your tongue weight and gross trailer weight to pick out an appropriate system for you. Also because of the cargo that your're carrying, I factored in sway control as another benefit to safely tow with this cargo.
The Fastway e2 Weight Distribution with 2-Point Sway Control # FA94-00-1000 is the best choice to safely and effectively tow your cargo. It features two points of steel-on-steel friction that work to prevent and correct trailer sway in this weight distribution system. Sway control brackets help to ensure that your trailer stays in line with your tow vehicle.
Since your hitch has a max tongue weight capacity of 1,050 lbs and gross towing weight of 10,500 lbs, this Fastway system is up to the task of towing a 8400 lb trailer with 960 LBS of tongue weight with room to spare. This system can handle up to a tongue weight of 600 lbs - 1,000 lbs and a gross towing weight up to 10,000 lbs.
This hitch evenly distributes weight over axles of tow vehicle and trailer for stability and control and creates a level ride for both tow vehicle and trailer. The hitch ball is sold separately # EQ91-00-6120, and the 1-7/8" thin walled socket # EQ70-00-4800 or # ALL643216 is sold separately and is recommended for this hitch ball installation.
