Adding a 6- or 7-Way Trailer Connector to a 2014 Ford Explorer to Tow a Trailer With Brakes
Question:
I want to purchase a wiring harness and P2 brake controller for my 2014 Ford Explorer. I will be pulling a travel trailer that has either a 6 or 7 pole plug. Please let me know exactly what items I need for the wire harness i guess can even use a 4 pin to a 6 pole adapter but want it to look good, brake controller, etc. Thanks

Since you said you want a Prodigy P2, part # 90885, so the trailer has brakes. In order to power its brakes you need the 6- or 7-way trailer connector to provide that function. Simply using an adapter from a 4-way to a 6- or 7-way won't do so because the 4-way doesn't have a brake circuit.
Instead you need to convert the 4-way to either a 6-way with part # ETBC6 or a 7-way with part # ETBC7. Both kits use an existing 4-way and convert it to a fully functioning connector of whichever you choose.
If you don't already have a 4-way on your Explorer I recommend part # 118540.
I've linked an article on wiring, as well as some videos on the products for you.
