Recommended 16K 5th Wheel Hitch for a 2018 Ford F-150
Question:
I have a 2018 reflection 150 series 230RL trailer with the new swivel pin box. It states there is no need for a slider hitch even in a 5.5foot bed because of the 90 degree turning radius at the box, not the king pin. What would you recommend in a 16K solid hitch in a Curt or Reese?

Helpful Expert Reply:
For your 2018 Ford F-150 with the 6-1/2' bed, I recommend taking a look at the Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch part # RP30047. The Reese hitch has a 2 jaw locking system which provides more jaw-to-king-pin contact than slide-bar models. The 4-way pivoting head helps with hooking up your trailer on unlevel ground. The height of the hitch head can also be adjusted from 14-1/2" to 18". You are correct in that you will not need a sliding hitch if you have a rotating pin box.
In order to install this hitch on your truck you will need a set of base rails and for this I recommend the Reese Quick-Install Custom Base Rails and Outboard Installation Kit for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches part # RP56034-53. The base rails feature an outboard design which makes installation much easier in comparison to inboard rail kits.
I have attached a review video of both the hitch and rail kit in addition to an installation video on a similar 2016 Ford F-150 for you as well.
