For your 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500 Short bed, if you have the 6-1/2 foot bed then I recommend a sliding 5th wheel hitch for turning clearance. If you have a 5-1/2 foot bed, then you will need a fixed hitch and a Sidewinder pin box for turning clearance. Let me know what trailer you are looking at if this is the case and I'll be happy to assist.
For a 6-1/2 foot bed, I recommend the Reese Quick-Install Custom Base Rails and Installation Kit for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # RP50064-58. This will give you the rails needed for industry standard hitches. For a compatible hitch, I recommend the Curt A16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ R16 Slider - Dual Jaw - 16,000 lbs # C16521 which has the round tube rails for less binding and has the interlocking jaws for excellent king pin contact.
If you want a more basic double pivoting hitch, then I recommend the Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Square Tube Slider - Dual Jaw - 16,000 lbs # RP30051. This uses the square tubes for the slider and will also work well for your short bed truck.
You may also be interested in the Bargman wiring harness # 50-97-410 to add a second 7-way trailer wiring connector to the bed of your truck for easier access and clean connection.
