Troubleshooting Left Brake and Turn Signal Not Working on 2003 Arctic Fox 990 Truck Bed Camper

Question:

I just purchased a cabover camper. The left rear brake light and turn are not working. The running light does. The camper plugs into a 7 pin behind the drive in the bed of the truck. I have had a trailer hooked up from the rear 7 pin and all lights work as they should. I have checked the fuses in my tow vehicle and they all are good. I have a 1995 Ford F350. Im not sure if a cabover camper would have its own fuse/relay, etc.? The camper is a 2003 Arctic Fox 990.

Let's do some troubleshooting. First, let's check the 7-way trailer connector on your truck using a circuit tester like # PTW2993. We will check each pin for function one by one. I've attached a photo to assist. If your 7-way is not functioning correctly on that left side brake and signal, then you will need to follow that wire, testing it every few feet until you find the short and replace the wire as needed.

To test your camper, you can simply connect that left brake and turn signal function to 12V power from any battery to test function. It could be a bad light bulb, or bad wire if that function does not work. You will want to trace that wire with your circuit tester checking every few feet as well to test for a short.

If everything seems to function well independently, then a bad ground is usually the issue. Check for a ground connection on that tail light first and make sure you have a bare metal to metal connection. If that doesn't solve your issue, check the main ground on your 2003 Artic Fox 990 camper.
