How To Have Clearance and Good Ride With Roadmaster EZ5 Base Plate Flat-Towing 2016 Kia Soul

Question:

Did anyone need to buy a hitch for the RV, in order to level the tow bar? The Kia Soul sits very low. And from pics it looks like the tow drawbars sit very low to the ground. Thanks for any input!

Like you pointed out, you will need to level everything to flat tow your vehicle behind your RV. To provide this leveling, you often need a High-Low hitch adapter.

For flat towing, you have a "safe zone" that ranges from 3 inches above level to 3 inches below level. To land in the 3 inch "sweet spot", you will need an adapter like the Roadmaster High-Low Adapter Item # RM-076.

To find the right adapter for your situation, you will need to measure the hitch height on your RV from the ground up to the center of the trailer hitch receiver opening when your RV is on level ground. Then park the dinghy on level ground and measure from the ground up to the center point of the tabs of your base plates. Subtract the difference between the RV and dinghy measurements to find right rise/drop needed to land in the "safe zone". After you find this out, pick an adapter that meets your needs (links attached).

Based on your information, it sounds like your 2016 Kia Soul is a manual transmission and the Roadmaster baseplates that are a confirmed fit are Item # RM-522114-5. If an automatic transmission, let me know and I will make a correct recommendation.

If you need a tow bar, the Roadmaster Falcon 2 Tow Bar Item # RM-520 is a solid performer with 6,000 lbs capacity.

If you don't already have safety cables you can use Item # RM-643.

If you need lighting then the Roadmaster Tail Light Wiring Kit With Bulbs Item # RM-155 is a great option.

If you need a supplemental braking system that automatically works with your RV then the SMI Stay-IN-Play Duo Item # SM99251 is a great choice because it installs once and then you never worry about it again.

If you need anything else, let me know and I will be glad to make correct recommendations.
