Troubleshooting Tekonsha Voyager Trailer Brake Controller 39510 Installation in 2002 Ram Pickup
Question:
Ive got a tekonsha voyager trailer brake controller on my 02 Dodge Ram 2500 and the green light wont come on. Controller is new because last one was doing same thing. Truck has tow package and with the manual slide on the controller can activate the brake lights on the trailer. Has got good voltage and I ran a new ground wire to battery but still no green light. Any idea whats going on? Help would be much appreciated.

The most common causes for not seeing a green indicator light for the Tekonsha Voyager trailer brake controller # 39510 are corrosion on the brake circuit or ground contact on the vehicle socket (or the trailer plug) or a loose ground wire or power wire to the controller. The troubleshooting instructions are shown in the linked instructions.
Since your truck is about 15-years-old if it still has the original (or even just a fairly old) 7-way socket it is possible that there could be corrosive build-in on the contacts or even inside the socket or plug housing. Sometimes this corrosion can be tough to spot from the outside. Even if the socket looks fine the plug that connects to the rear of the socket also could have this issue. This is not an usual problem since vehicle and trailer connectors do have a lot of exposure to the elements.
You can try a spray-on electrical contact cleaner product or manually clean away any discoloration on the contacts to restore the circuit connection. An application of dielectric grease like # 11755 will help protect your cleaned contacts by blocking entry of water and other contaminants.
