Why Cant Reese Sway Control Kit be Used With Class I Hitch?
Question:
Why cant this unit be used on a class 1 hitch? I have a 2018 Subaru Outback with a factory Subaru hitch gross towing capacity 2700 lbs tongue weight 200 lb. Ive towed with other larger vehicles and experienced sway and would feel more comfortable with sway control while towing my Aliner Ranger weight 1700 lbs length 16 ft

You cannot use the Reese Friction Sway Control Kit # 83660 on class I hitches such as the factory hitch on your 2018 Subaru Outback because it adds a degree of tension to the hitch which lightweight hitches are not designed to accept.
Should you want to use sway control, I recommend adding a higher capacity hitch to your Outback such as the Draw-Tite # 75673, which is a Class III hitch with a 4,000 lb towing capacity and 600 lb tongue weight capacity.
