Can 16 Inch Trailer Tires be Used on a 6 Inch Wide Wheel

Question:

Hello I have a toy hauler with 7k triple axles 8 lug. I want to run 14 ply sailun 110 psi max tires on 16inch wheels. My wheels are 16x6inch wide and the sailun specs call for a 6.5inch wide wheel. Do I need to toss my wheels for a 6.5inch wide wheel or can i mount them to my current 6 and replace the rubber valve stems for metal stems rated for 110 psi? My wheels do not have a max psi rating on them, they are the taskmaster steel i believe or similar style 8 lug wheels.

Any given 16 inch trailer tire will fit a range of wheel widths. The 235/80-16 and 235/85-16 tires fit wheels that are 6 to 7-1/2 inches wide. On 7.50-16LT tires though the wheel would have to be a 6 inch.

On trailers it is better to use the narrowest wheel that you can for better sidewall support. The wheels that you have could work as long as the wheels are rated for the 110 psi of the tires. You may or may not need to replace the valve stems but if you do you can use # AM20906.
